Building A WordPress Blog That People Want To ReadProduct Description

Having your own blog isn’t just for the nerdy anymore. Today, it seems everyone—from multinational corporations to a neighbor up the street—has a blog. They all have one, in part, because the folks at WordPress make it easy to get one. but to actually build a good blog—to create a blog people want to read—takes thought, planning, and some effort. From picking a theme and using tags to choosing widgets and building a community, creating your blog really starts after you set it up. In this book by blogger extraordinaire Scott McNulty, you learn how to:

  • Install and get your WordPress blog running.
  • Set up your site to ensure it can easily grow with you and your readers.
  • Be the master of user accounts.
  • Manage your site with the WordPress Dashboard and extend its capabilities with plug-ins.
  • Make the most of images.
  • Work with pages, templates, and links and—of course—publish your posts.
  • Deal with comments—if you even want readers commenting at all.
  • Find a theme—or build one yourself.
  • Maintain your site and fix common problems.

  1. I just received the book a few hours ago and hastened to read through. I look forward to my second and third read through, as I apply some of Scott’s suggestions. I learned several new ways to write and market my blog. Good and useful book.

  2. I am a recent wordpress convert, and it’s been a battle to get it up and running (30+ hours of research online). This was my first WordPress book purchase, I wanted something that would get me started and answer a few questions I couldn’t find online.

After reading it, I was able to identify several things I still needed to do to “Futureproof” my blog. I found the explanations and instructions clear and sufficient. Specifically, I was able to install a non-standard theme and edit the CSS files of it. I had been unable to do this after reviewing lots of online documentation.

It’s a great reference book and I would recommend it to anyone getting started with wordpress.

Scott has produced a very easy and straight forward book on WordPress.

“Building a WordPress Blog People want to read” just saved me about a month of work.

    Thanks Scott!

  4. This is an excellent manual for those who want to understand the practice of WordPress. Really the “WordPress missing manual” you should have before starting the beautiful adventure of blogging.

Scott McNulty follows simply the logic: how to install WordPress, understand the dashboard, define the right settings, post, manage comments, change the appearance and manage plug-ins.

The text is clear and screenshots nicely complete the picture.

  5. I was disappointed to find this book had NOTHING to do with how to build a blog people want to read. Instead it’s a basic introductory on how to setup your first WordPress blog online. Good if you want to know how to setup your first self-hosted WordPress blog, but bad if you already have a blog and want more information on how build it into one “people want to read”.
